What we send you, and where it appears

Last reviewed 3 September 2026

Notifications reach you in up to three places, and they are controlled separately.

On the site

The bell in the header. Everything appears here, and nothing switches it off — it is the record of what happened while you were away.

  • Replies to your posts and comments, and mentions of your name
  • Friend requests
  • Threads you are watching
  • Rank ups, achievements unlocked, quests completed, recognitions received
  • Giveaway reminders and results
  • Wishlist games releasing, or being reviewed

In your inbox

The ones worth interrupting you for, governed by a single switch: Email me in Settings → Notifications. Turning it off never hides anything on the site.

Two kinds ignore that switch, deliberately: email verification and password resets. An unsubscribe that also disabled password resets would lock people out of their own accounts.

In Discord

Separate again, and opt-in. /subscribe news and /subscribe giveaway in the server; /subscribe status shows where you stand.

The newsletter is none of these

It is its own list with its own unsubscribe link — see stop getting emails from TechPlay.

Still stuck?

Both of these reach a person. Tell us what you tried — it saves a round trip.
